We started making winches because the machines were all coming from abroad.
BMC Power Co. is led by its founder, Shri Yougesh Ranjan Gupta. The business began in 1995 supplying aftermarket spares for heavy earthmoving machinery and diesel engines to contractors across India — work that put us on site, year after year, with the people building the country's power infrastructure.
That is where the second half of the company came from. The winches used to erect transmission towers were all imported, and the crews who could not afford them were using agricultural tractors instead. There was very little being built in India as a proper alternative, so in 2017 we started.
Our engineers spent more than a year developing a machine that was safe, easy to operate and low enough in cost to be a genuine replacement. The result was the 5 ton mechanical winch, which quickly became a staple for Larsen & Toubro, Tata Projects, Ashoka Buildcon, Afcons and others. Today BMC Power does both: we manufacture the machines, and we still supply the spares.
Having proved the engineering in the mechanical space, moving to hydraulic power was the natural next step. Our 5 ton hydraulic winch, built entirely in house and carrying patent 334658-001, brings smoother operation and better load control to tower erection and underground cabling work.
The work is deliberately aligned with the Make in India and Viksit Bharat initiatives, and with Power Grid's vision of safety for human life. It also does something more ordinary and more useful: it keeps the money, the spare parts and the service engineers in the country where the towers are being built.
Small enough to answer the phone, big enough to build the machine
Between the works units and the stores we cover a wide span of work: complete winches and pulling equipment built from raw material, crimping and cutting tools, wireless load monitoring, and the aftermarket spares that keep the rest of a contractor's fleet moving.
Very little of what we make is truly standard. Capacities, drum arrangements, trolley and skid mountings, engine options and control layouts are routinely changed to suit a client's job. If the machine you need is close to something on our products page but not quite it, that is a conversation, not a problem.

In 2026, Vardhman Ranjan officially joined BMC Power Co., partnering with his father, the Managing Director, to lead the industrial firm's next phase of growth. Bringing prior private sector experience and a strong technical engineering foundation, he operates from the office headquarters to align the company's legacy machinery production with modern digital standards.
While the company has successfully built, tested and supplied high quality machinery to major clients like Larsen & Toubro and Tata Projects for years, Vardhman bridges the critical gap between engineering execution and market accessibility. He leads the technical documentation processes, translating complex machine specifications, testing figures, patent details, technicalities and exhibition records into streamlined, actionable data for contractors, engineers and tender officers. The architecture and development of this website are a direct result of this modernisation initiative.
By integrating the analytical habits and digital-first approach of a younger generation, Vardhman is transforming a business traditionally built on relationship based, undocumented knowledge into a highly organised, scalable enterprise. Leveraging his engineering skills, he systematically documents technical assets and analyses future equipment requirements. It is a straightforward division of leadership: while the Managing Director drives the engineering and manufacturing vision, Vardhman ensures that the resulting industry leading equipment is discoverable, transparently detailed and seamlessly accessible to the decision makers who need it.
Inside the workshop
Our head office sits at Church Road, Kashmere Gate, with two works units at Samaypur Industrial Area and further capacity being added as demand grows. Machining, assembly, load testing, the spares stores and the dispatch shed all sit under our own roof. That is the only way to hold a delivery date, and the only way to answer a question about a part without calling someone back.
Every year since 2018, on the floor with the machine
A winch is difficult to judge from a photograph. It is not difficult to judge when it is standing in front of you with the capstan turning. That is why we take the machines to the industry rather than waiting for the industry to find us — in India and abroad, without missing a year since our first showing in Dubai.
GRIDCON 2025
GRIDCON 2025 was held from 9 to 11 March 2025 at Yashobhoomi, Dwarka, organised by Power Grid Corporation of India under the Ministry of Power, with more than 2,000 delegates, 150 exhibitors and representatives from 30 countries.
Shri Shripad Naik, Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, visited the BMC Power Co. stall, examined the 8 ton winch and described it as a revolutionary innovation.
Speaking to the paper, Managing Director Shri Yougesh Ranjan Gupta noted that the equipment previously used for stringing at high-voltage tower sites cost in the region of ₹1 crore and carried considerable risk, while our research team engineered and built the machine successfully for around ₹6 lakh.
